In The Governance of the Possible’s Tarot deck, Root and Connect is an adaptation of the Strength card of traditional decks. This resonated with me as the dynamic between the woman and the lion seemed to represent the constant struggle between the marginalised and the oppressor. In this design the woman acts as the necessary inner strength of the Black community in the face of continued adversity and oppression. It implies, “still, we rise”.
